Atomic Age Antique Truetone Boomerang Radio-1949

This would make a wonderful Christmas present and a conversation piece in any living room or office.

Boomerang" design, so called because of it`s unique curved styling, which also resembles a 50`s dashboard. These radios are always the focal point of any display of modern design. Beautiful atomic age radio restored by New Again Restorations.

Cabinet: The cabinet had no chips, cracks, or scratches. Block sanded with 800 grit paper to remove waves in Bakelite. Painted with Sikkens clear coat urethane. After the paint cured, the cabinet was blocked sanded with 2000 and then 3000 grit paper. Three stages of machine buffing and a final hand glaze give this radio a unique beauty. See all the pictures to appreciate the outstanding marbling. The back a nice original that has been repaired. Nice, original grill cloth and knobs. The process for finishing marbled Bakelite cabinets is time consuming but the end result is a fabulous finish that showcases all the marbling. No orange peel, runs, or dry spots.

Chassis: Cleaned, all wax capacitors replaced, filter capacitors replaced, resistors checked and changed as needed. All tubes tested and weak or defective ones replaced. New line cord. Alignment checked. Restoring these old radio chassis is a fairly standard procedure and was done routinely in many radio shops in days gone by.

Restoration philosophy: The designers of these old radios were true artists! Sometimes we strive to restore to a near original look, and other times we add our own artistic touch, but we should ALWAYS work with an appreciation for and enhancement of the original design. Imagine how the old radios might have looked if today's paints, colors, and techniques had been available! We make no negative comments about the philosophy or work of others.
