Antique "Old Lager" beer keg radio7808679
"Old Lager" beer keg novelty radio by RK Radio Labs of New York. Introduced in 1933 to commemorate the end of Prohibition and usher in the resumption of beer brewing in the United States. The year of production was the worst year of the Great Depression and this would have been a fairly costly item for newly reopended taverns. I can imagine that this novelty brought a smile to the faces of a very thirsty public!
The oak keg is in mint condition and the copper clad bands have aquired a beautiful mellow patina. Dimensions of the radio are 8" tall by 10" deep. This unit recently received a $96 professional chassis restoration with replacement of faulty parts and a new power cord. The radio reception is fairly limited and the volume is adequate, considering the novelty nature of the radio. A fantastic conversation piece and piece of American history. Sold
