The Kaito KA1102 high quality world receiver is made in one of the best radio factories in China and it receives all of the shortwave broadcast frequencies. The KA1102 can decode SSB Single Side Band broadcasts though it’s SSB circuitry, 1 kHz tuning steps and clarifier. It is much better than other radios costing much more and in a smaller size. 190 memories (10 pages of 19 / page 10 is used to allow SSB use) can store your favorite stations.

The KA1102 receives FM in stereo from 70 to 108 mHz, AM Medium Wave from 520 to 1710 kHz and Shortwave from 3 to 26 mHz. Both the sound quality and reception sensitivity is top notch and combined with the many convenience features makes it a tremendous value. Initial reviews of the Asian version (Degen DE1102) have been very favorable (see review below) especially at this low selling price which beats other SSB radios.



Read the detailed review in the 2004 PASSPORT TO WORLD BAND RADIO publication where the radio received 3 STARS and a "Passport’s Choice" selection. Some of the observations that were made include: "Superior FM and Mediumwave AM", "image rejection is excellent", "SSB reception is quite good...the BFO control is analog , allowing for precise phasing with a station’s frequency".

A narrow filter setting better separates stations on crowded shortwave bands or with SSB use and a wide filter setting provides better audio fidelity. The included indoor wire antenna plugs into the radio’s external antenna jacks and dramatically improves the shortwave reception over the telescopic antenna. The radio contains an automatic light sensor that turns on the light for the LCD display whenever a key is pressed and the ambient light level is low. The dual conversion circuitry reduces out of band stations from interfering with the received frequency.

Included with the radio are three Nickel Metal Hydride AA batteries that can be recharged up to 500 times with the included AC adapter/charger. The radio is slow to drain the batteries during use so there probably won’t be a need to purchase any expensive AA alkaline batteries during the life of the radio.
